Memecoins: Why I’m Shifting Strategy (But Still Betting on a Few Standouts)

The memecoin trenches have gotten brutal. What used to work—catching early runners and riding them to 10x or 20x—just isn’t working the same anymore. Most “runners” are topping out around $1.5 million in market cap before getting dumped. Rug pulls are everywhere. Communities are frustrated. And honestly, I’m sick of watching good people in the space get wrecked.

That’s why this will be one of my last memecoin gems I cover for the short term. It’s time to get serious about portfolio strategy.

The Harsh Reality of Memecoins

  • 95% of traders end up at a loss.

  • Most projects implode within weeks.

  • Too many communities are fake and orchestrated only to pump and dump.

I’ve lost plenty on meme plays myself. And that’s okay—because I size them at about 10% of my portfolio. But too many people are full-porting into these plays, then blaming influencers when the inevitable crash comes.

The truth is simple: memecoins are high risk, high volatility, and only a small part of a balanced crypto strategy.

Why Hollow Caught My Attention

Despite all that, one project has piqued my interest: Hollow on Solana.

What makes it different?

  • Narrative + Storytelling: Hollow creates “logs” that track its adventures across the blockchain. Each update has gone viral on X, capturing attention in a way few meme projects have.

  • Organic Community: Over 3,600 holders, with distribution spreading out. It feels real, not manufactured.

  • Early Exchange Listings: Already listed on LBank and BitMart within its first week—a strong signal of market interest.

  • Good Vibes: Call it instinct, but this project feels different. Sometimes in crypto, you just know when a narrative has legs.

I’m not saying it’s guaranteed to moon. It could fizzle tomorrow. But the combination of creativity, community, and attention makes Hollow worth a small, speculative allocation.

Other Memecoins Still on My Radar

Even as I step back, there are a few I’ll continue to follow:

  • AWR: A resilient Solana memecoin that’s survived while most peers died off. With over 7,000 holders and strong community support, it’s positioned for a bigger run when euphoria returns.

  • Mars: A pygmy hippo-themed coin with real-world impact. The team has been funding conservation efforts, creating a rare case where meme meets meaningful utility.

  • MXY 6900: A “memecoin index” designed to capture the entire culture of memes. Corrections have been brutal, but like SPX6900 and Turbo before it, the long-term thesis could play out if meme markets stabilize.

My Final Word on Memecoins (for Now)

I’m not abandoning memes forever. They’ll always have a place in crypto, and when the hype cycle returns, some of these could explode again. But right now, too many people are mistaking luck for strategy.

Here’s my advice:

  1. Keep memes to 10% or less of your portfolio.

  2. Focus on community-driven projects with unique narratives.

  3. Accept that most of your meme bets will fail—and size accordingly.

I’ll continue to share projects I personally like, but never assume a video or article alone can “send it to the moon.” Communities make memecoins succeed—not influencers.

Stay safe, size smart, and remember: work for your bags.
